Spring Day in November

Oh what a great weeks worth of weather we had. Actually thought it finally was spring...58, 65 & yesterday it was 73. I love it when November weather is great...

Still knitting like a crazy person trying to finish birthday gifts....then to finish Christmas...
It's hard to do anything else when one is on a mission. A good mission but a big one.

Must make a few pieces of jewelry too!!!!!!

Have a great Sunday and enjoy life,

"No Reply"

Oh what a great song by McCartney/Lennon......"No Reply". To have grown up and marked special events by "The Beatles" is magnificent. I love being a baby boomer and have seen and heard the wonderful musicians of our era.

It is odd how each song meant something different back in the day and reflected on that period of time in our lives.

I can still listen to all the wonderful music and remember the times. Frusteration, fun, peace & love among us all.. It's fun to know our children and now our grandkids are exposed and enjoying this music. It seems to mean something different for each of us. I was remembering an old boyfriend from my "Sweet 16" party. How funny is that.

Well enjoy this week.....and by the way GO YANKEES!!!!!!!!!!!

Peace & Love,

So Little Time & So Much To Knit....

I went to Facebook for more traffic and found myself connecting with some long ago friends of mine and my grown children.

I went to one of my son's friends blog, it's wonderful..he has a photography blog http://blog.andrescampos.com/, check it out. What a talented young man he is.

When they were all together playing soccer and eating I never imagined that he would

grow into such a talent.

It's been fun catching up with some of the boys (now men) who were with my son

always. They were a great group of kids....
Oh, don't forget the contest....http://www.deepinsidemissy.com/...GO SEE MISSY!!!!
Have to finish knitting gifts for birthdays coming....

Knitting Days & Huge Needles

Almost done with my 2nd celery sock of the pair. I can't wait to wear them so soft and comforting.
Have to complete a beautiful scarf I'm making for my Granddaughter....I went through one of my
stitch books and found a pattern stitch" Staggered Lace Fern Pattern", so feminine and delicate.
I know she will love it.

Now I have to start on Christmas gifts for the kids. Wish I could knit a sweater quickly! Haven't
gone there yet but will soon.

Maybe socks for the kids..yes, they would love crazy hand knit socks from Grandma. I love
playing with different stitch designs, they really are fun to make. Yes, progress made!!!!

Now the next problem I have is how to combine 3 or 4 different yarns at once to knit on
the large hand made needles (size 35 ) that my neighbor and I made. I love the idea of knitting
with huge needles but am not sure how to combine the yarns.

Have a great Sunday!!!

Peace,
Darla

New Socks

The only great and fun thing about our cold, rainy weather is that I get to wear my wool hand knit socks that I made last winter!!

I started a new pair for myself last evening and have completed the first one
(yes, dpn's 7.5US) of the pair. They are Lanaloft Wool in celery.

I just love the softness of the wool...ooh wonderful. Third pair..just for ME!!!!

I still have some birthday gifts for the grandchildren to complete and also for
my sisters' birthday in November. Then it's on to complete Christmas gifts
knitting away.....

I went to volunteer day at our local nursing home. Had lots of fun and made a scare crow out of clothing & stuffed it with newspaper. I won 1st prize cause I brought 3 people with me. And the Pumpkin cake was delicious!!!

So, I have made a commitment to go at least once every month to visit, read, write letters or lose at scrabble. This I can do and have fun.

Well have a great Thursday and I'll be at our library for our reading group . It's interesting hearing the views of other people and what they interpret from the same book.

Peace,
Darla

Knitting and Sisters

I can't tell you what all my knitting has done for me but I will try.

I just received some new yarn fromhttp://www.paradisefibers.net this morning. Oh what a pleasure to open that package of Brown Sheep Lanaloft, Celery and Twilleys Freedom Spirit Yarn in Soul. I already started a pair of socks for me!!!!!

I had the funniest day yesterday texting back and forth with my Sister. I needed her calf, leg & bottom of her foot measurements...so here she is in her office with an aluminum ruler .. texting me the numbers..all of a sudden I started to picture her going through the motions her big sister asked her to perform. No questions asked mind you just blind obedience. I began to laugh out loud so loud the dogs started to get upset. What if they have cameras?? Does she think I really went over the edge?? Well, on Nov. 25th her birthday she will know why I made her do these strange things at work.

It's hard to be far apart...we haven't seen each other in a few years (and that was at Mom's deathbed)and probably won't for a long time

So here's to all the sisters in the world who live a distance apart but can still laugh with each other over the silliest things we do. I love you Dorie.....

Peace,
Darla

What A Day!!

Who would have thought the temperature could even be 90 degrees right now in South Dakota...where did spring go?

I understand I can turn the ac off tonite as it is going to drop down 30 - 35 degrees. Okay that sounds more like it.

I would rather have 75 or so that way I can start planting and watching the flowers grow.

People are very hard to satisfy. I can't have it both ways...cold or hot nothing in between.

I'm working on a scarf for my granddaughter A for her Oct. b'day. Need to start early and Kansas is where they will be not DC anymore. They'll be a little closer or at least within driving distance.

Have a great night...I am going to walk the dogs.

Peace,

Darla

Happy Birthday To Me

I am now officially sixty, that's 60! I feel great and just made a Chocolate Mayo Cake with butter cream frosting. It's smaller than what Mom made for birthdays but I
can probably finish this one by Tuesday.

Opened more cards and they were very pretty....

Will write later.. am going to figure out what to knit next.

Peace,

Darla

My 60th Year

This is a photo of one of my favorite birds..the Yellow Finch...isn't he beautiful.

Where did all those years go? I don't feel sixty...I am not like my Mom & Dad were at this age. Thank goodness I'm a Baby Boomer..you know the after WWII kids.

The age thing doesn't seem to bother me..I read, Tweet, blog and learned to knit.
My back is bad but as a whole the body is still okay. I do need to have my hair streaked but the wrinkles (lines) I earned. Mom always said "too much sun is not good for you". Ooh..she was right again.

I would love her to make my favorite, Hellman's Chocolate Mayo Cake with butter cream icing. It's been way too many years since I had that and family to enjoy it with.

So I was born April 18th, 1949 on a Monday. It was 5:36 AM, EST. I don't have much time left till the big day.

I have a friend here that baked a cherry pie for me to celebrate the day.

I am having a good year (except for surgery & pneumonia) and even have new yarn Rowan Chunky to play with. What more could one ask for but new beautiful yarn.

Peace,

Darla
